On the Feast of Stephen- A Hero Banner for King Wenceslas
“This is an impression of King Wenceslas, who ruled Bohemia, now the Czech Republic. I’ve sung John Neale’s carol about him for fifty years, but only paid attention to the good story therein three Decembers ago. The birds are Bohemian Waxwings that hang out in Anchorage until all the Mountain Ash berries are gone. I think the colors are dark because it was sewn in Alaska in December.”
The text reads: The patron saint of Bohemia, Good King Wenceslas was pious, generous and forgiving. Ye who now will bless the poor, Shall yourselves find blessing.
